Photographer Marc Latzel created photographic still lifes that reflect how food has been preserved from ancient times to the present day.

In many Western consumer societies, plates are plentiful. But having too much on our plates isn’t necessarily a good thing. Our bodies weren’t made for all-you-can-eat buffets or the abundance of highly processed foods on offer today. No surprise, then, that our systems can easily be thrown off balance.

Researchers at UZH are examining our diets from a variety of angles. They’re studying what it means to follow a healthy diet and highlighting the health risks associated with poor nutrition. Crucially, they’re also developing strategies and therapies to help us keep our eating habits in shape – or get them back on track. These insights form the centerpiece of the latest UZH Magazin.

Travel back to the Big Bang

The magazine also covers a range of additional topics, including research in experimental particle physics that allows us to travel back in time to the Big Bang, the FutureU position paper issued by the UZH Digital Strategy Board which considers the digital future of universities, and the interdisciplinary research being conducted at UZH’s Healthy Longevity Center.

A selection of articles will be published on our website in English over the coming weeks. Bon appétit and happy reading!
